Colour blocking was a recurrent trend on AW21 runways, cropping up at all of our favorites, from Aime Leon Dore to Sacai. If you’re looking to follow suit, you’ve come to the right place. At AKA*, we keep our palette simple yet bold, so our clothes are the ideal jumping off point if you’d like to create a colour blocking story. We’ve collated some of our top picks to get you started.

  • YELLOW

Spotted on the catwalk at Off-White, Balenciaga and Jacquemus, sunshine yellow is bang on trend – to the extent it turned up in Pantone’s top two colours of the year for 2021! It’s also one of our favourite shades – you’ll notice that a lot of AKA* classics come in a choice of black, red or yellow. We like to layer up the Madison hoodie with the Soho backpack along with a pair of black cargo sweatpants

  • RED

When it comes to colour blocking, it doesn’t get more eye-catching than red on red – another go-to for designers this season. GQ philosophised that the proliferation is because we’re all in dire need of a bit of brightening up after months of pandemic life, and we’re inclined to agree! Our chosen shade is fierce and fiery, a real show stopper, and we create a fantastic range of tops, caps and backpacks in it. Girls, we recommend teaming the Argyle dress (pictured above) with our cropped Paxton hoodie and finishing the look with a pair of fresh white kicks.

  • BACK IT UP WITH BLACK

Though you can go all out on colour, blocking your look from cap to creps, sometimes all you need is a single bright flash to bring a look together. At AKA*, we love to build all-black outfits, adding colour blocked accents through carefully chosen accessories, as seen on the runway at Off-White (above; an all black ‘fit finished with bright orange gloves). You’ll find loads of great options on our site to create entirely black ensembles, and you can finish them off with one of our signature caps or backpacks. Alternatively, opt for items with touches of colour already included. Choose the Piccadilly hoodie, for example, with its bright yellow logo strap providing a pop of colour, or the Prospect tee with its bold, high contrast pocket.

Colour blocking continued to crop up on the catwalks for next season, too, so buying bold is an investment. Be sure to check out AKA*’s extensive range of products to stay on trend well into SS22, and tag us in your best colour blocked looks over on Instagram – we can’t wait to see where you take it.
